How much rest is required between two shifts?
At least 11 consecutive hours (Art. 15a ArG). Adults may go down to 8 hours once a week if the 2-week average is 11 hours. teim does not model this exception and always requires 11 hours.
Shift planning
teim’s shift planning software blocks any assignment with less than 11 hours of rest, as required by Art. 15a of the Swiss Labour Act (ArG). You define shifts with start, end and minimum staffing, then schedule your team in the weekly rota. teim automatically detects approved leave and double bookings.

teim is Swiss software for time tracking, project management, expenses and absences for SMEs with 5 to 200 employees.
Last updated: 15 October 2026
How it works
Set name, start, end and staffing, for example “Reception” from 7 am to 3 pm. Recurring shifts apply on the weekdays you choose.
Place people in the weekly rota. teim rejects an assignment if rest drops below 11 hours, or if the person is on approved leave or already assigned.
Employees request a swap, and managers approve or reject it. Anyone who is absent cannot take over a shift.
Legal basics
Under Art. 15a of the Swiss Labour Act (ArG), employees must have a daily rest period of at least 11 consecutive hours. teim checks this limit on every assignment and blocks it if it is not met.
teim does not check night work, pay supplements or permits. The other points are background only.

No. When planning shifts, teim checks three things: 11 hours of rest, approved absences and double bookings. Permits for night or Sunday work and pay supplements are handled outside teim.
No. You name every shift yourself and set start, end, location and staffing. That way the rota fits your shop, practice or workshop.
The assigned person requests a swap with a colleague in teim. The manager approves or rejects it. Anyone absent on that day cannot take over.
Once the absence is approved, teim allows no assignments on those days. teim already warns during the leave request if the person is scheduled. Leave & absences
